Vasculitis is the condition of blood vessel inflammation. Blood vessels get weaker when inflammation is present, they regress, grow or becomes smaller and even shrinks entirely. Vasculitis can affect almost every group of age but some specific vasculitides affect a group of age in particular. Some vasculitides affect some of the organs directly. Skin, eye, brain or some visceral organs are some of these. Sometimes multiple organs may be affected concurrently. The real reason for vasculitides is unknown in many cases. It is known that a few vasculitides cases result from some specific viruses. Infectious cycle of some of the patients affects immune system negatively and it damages vessels. Vasculitides is thought to develop after long term effect of immune system diseases on patients.
Vasculitis treatment changes depending on the organ it damages and the area it shows up. If it developed upon an allergic reaction it may disappear spontaneously but if it affected vital organs like lungs, brain or kidneys an efficient treatment is required. Steroids and chemotherapy drugs are within treatment options but their doses are much lower than what 's being given to cancer patients. The purpose here is to blockade abnormal immune system actions which damage the vessels.
